change is good, but not for everybody

Is it possible to encourage change in people who are resistant? Or, more accurately, enlighten people who believe that change is negative.
If not, why do we (educators) spend so much time debating this issue?
I do think that our profession is appealing to people who are uncomfortable with change, particularly in the arena of public education. We need to be mindful of this when instituting initiatives that require change.

I think it comes down to what we talked about yesterday--we have to make the survival anxiety greater than the learning anxiety, and that involves discovering what teachers define as "survival."

change and stability may not be oppositional forces. maybe many teachers are just lazy. or overwhelmed. if you're already an administrator, you'd agree with the former; if not yet, the latter.
